Welcome back Hellscape readers-- welcome back to Meet the Editors!! This week, we are pleased to introduce our incredibly shiny star of an art editor-- Elspeth Jensen.
So who are you anyway?
Role: Art Editor
Likes: Dogs, cinnamon, the word “bright”
Dislikes: Crocodiles, Almond Joys, creepy men
Where are you from?Washington State
Where are you now?Virginia
How did you get from here to there? An airplane
What do you do? I teach, learn, write and art things! All the while attempting to survive day-to-day catastrophes.
Do you have any animal companions? I have a dog named Milo, or My-loaf-of-bread if I’m trying to be funny.
Tell us about Hellscape
What does hellscape mean to you? I think, when it is too much--the world, universe, ourselves... become too much to bear or understand, a small hole forms in our reality; a wide and grotesque landscape grows here, and everything spills across it.
How does hellscape relate to hellscape press? Reality isn’t always adequately expressed by reality. That’s why horror, that’s why Hellscape press! We are a platform to explore existence through our own horrific-brand of honesty.
What is important about hellscape press to you? It provides a specific, exciting way to explore and grapple.
What are you reading right now? Matthea Harvey and Ian Hamilton Finlay are my most recent reads!
How do you spend your “free time”? Crafting, sleeping, and hanging out with my dog.
What is one thing you can’t live without (that isn’t air or water)? Something that gives your life meaning? Milo. Also language and art—creative means of expression and representation are (for me) what being alive is all about.
What are your plans for the future? There will be many naps along the way.
